Year One is suitable from around age 3. The stories are designed to grow with the child. As the years continue, the letters gradually include a little more text, richer vocabulary and a bigger story world.

If you are new to The Elf Letters, always start with Year One. Year Two and Year Three continue Alfie’s story and include returning characters, traditions and references to previous adventures.

Yes. Each year contains 25 completely different letters and a new Christmas adventure. The story continues from one year to the next, with familiar characters and traditions returning alongside new mysteries, pranks, activities and stories.

No. Alfie is invisible. Children get to know him through his letters, stories, clues, pranks and the curious things that happen around the home. Not seeing Alfie is part of the magic, children are free to imagine for themselves what he is really like.

Yes. The letters are written so they work for one child or several children together.

As much or as little as you want. Some letters work perfectly on their own. Others suggest a simple prank, clue or activity that can make Alfie’s visit feel even more real. Most ideas use ordinary things you already have at home, and every year includes Tips & Tricks to help you prepare. The story is big. The setup doesn’t have to be.

No. The letters are designed as one continuing adventure, so using them in order gives the fullest experience, but you can skip or adapt individual activities if something does not suit your family.

Absolutely. No physical elf, miniature or special prop is required, but you can add an elf door, tiny furniture, footprints or other miniature details if you enjoy creating them. The letters work just as well without them.

Every December with Alfie is a little different. Children might send their Christmas wish list through Freezer Post, discover Freezeleezers living in the freezer, compete in the Skromta Games, bake gingerbread, hear about a baking competition in Gingerbread Land, learn the Fire Dance or Wooden-Clog Stomp, go on treasure hunts or discover one of Alfie’s rather unusual meals.Alfie also tells them about his life, his strange traditions, Swedish St. Lucia Day and the wonderfully peculiar friends who are part of his world. Some days are silly, some mysterious, some cosy - and together they become one continuing Christmas adventure.

Yes. The story has Scandinavian roots, but the activities can easily be adapted to different climates. You do not need snow for Alfie to visit.

No. The first Elf Letters were written in Sweden in 2018, and the stories, characters and world have been developed over the years. All of the letters are genuinely written and are not AI-generated.
