Meet Alfie and his friends
Meet the Characters Behind the Letters
Welcome to Alfie’s world - a place filled with curious creatures, unlikely friends and wonderfully peculiar personalities.
Children meet them little by little as the Christmas adventures unfold.
Some live in Sweden. Some seem to live remarkably close to your own home. And some are best left unexplained.
Meet the characters below.

Appear in year 1, 2 and 3
Alfie
The main character: warm, mischievous, curious, imaginative and extremely fond of gingerbread. He has a remarkable talent for ending up in peculiar situations.

Appear in year 1, 2 and 3
Cupboard Tuffle
Lives in cupboards, keeps an eye on what is happening in the house and seems both observant and helpful. She especially loves hearing children sing.

Appear in year 1, 2 and 3
Dust Bunnies
Furry little dust creatures that hide behind beds, furniture and inside cupboards. Messy, mischievous and occasionally rather cheeky.

Appear in year 3
The Featherclucks
A world-famous clucking group made up of four hens and the magnificent Aurora Rooster. Musical, festive and wonderfully silly.

Goldbolt
Loves games and is extraordinarily good at throwing dice – so good that Alfie suspects he might be cheating.

Grumblehat
Grumpy, stubborn, muttering and easily annoyed – but with a good heart hidden somewhere underneath. Has a serious weakness for cookies.

Appear in year 1, 2 and 3
Longtails
Recurring friends in Alfie’s circle. Sociable, festive and musical, and often turn up at parties and celebrations.

Appear in year 2

Appear in year 1, 2 and 3
Marshmane
Kind, playful and slightly peculiar. Loves pine cones, sticks and stones and somehow knows how to walk and run at the same time. Has an impressive black moustache and pointed beard.

Miss Duck
One of Alfie’s old friends. She is mentioned in passing, but not much is known about her personality yet.

Miss Trubbalunta
Alfie’s great romantic interest. Lovely in Alfie’s eyes – and the person who makes him become terribly nervous and rather hopeless on dates.

Appear in year 2
Mr Lunkentass
A travelling spice seller and true spice expert. Has enormous eyes, pointy ears, is always cold and wears a huge yellow knitted jumper with red spots.

Appear in year 3

Tooth Fairy
One of the fairy sisters. Lively and rather business-minded – she once tried to buy all of Alfie’s teeth. She also enjoys turning up at parties.

Appear in year 3
Tuffles
Among the most mischievous creatures in Alfie’s world. They hide beneath large stones and sneak into houses to move things around simply because they find it hilarious.

Appear in year 3
Typo Elf
Alfie’s cousin who is hopeless at spelling and therefore writes completely ridiculous Christmas gift rhymes.

Appear in year 3
Wish Fairy
One of the fairy sisters. Enthusiastic, wand-happy and always eager to grant a wish – she can even conjure up a treasure with a single POOF.
